Prineville reservoir is located in the high desert hills of Central Oregon, 14 miles Southeast of Prineville and 29 miles East of Bend. The reservoir has 43 miles of panoramic shoreline.
We launched at Powderhouse State Park, which is a free day use and boat launch. It includes paved parking, a beautiful picnic area, boat ramp and very clean vaulted restrooms.
We at Fox Central are not the most serious fisherman as you can see below. Today just happened to be a very lucky day as we caught two whole trout. Yes we have the boat, gear and worms. The problem being, we love to explore what’s around the next corner, especially on a lake this large.
For serious fishing the lake offers an abundance of rainbow and cutthroat trout, small and large mouth bass, catfish, crappie and crayfish. Trout fishing is year round and ice fishing in the winter. Fly fishing on the crooked river is very popular with great opportunities.
Camping is extremely popular, so get your reservations early. RV sites with full hookup at the State park is $31.00 a night. Water and electric only is $28.00 and tents are $21.00, which all include fire pits, picnic tables, water and very clean restrooms. Amenities also include a cute little store for supplies and bait.
