Blix Electric Bikes 100 Mile Update

It’s been a busy last two months of camping, fishing and riding our Blix Electric Bikes. We have both ridden our bikes a little over 100 miles and going strong. I cannot say one negative comment about these bikes, from the comfort, user friendly design to the incredible balance they provide. We have been riding them to the grocery store, to Starbucks -fun and exploring every trail in and around Bend, Oregon. Wait until we get back on the RV road, we will be dangerous.

So let’s discuss Pros: Well designed with super comfort

Upgraded LITHIUM Battery with a 55 mile range

Well built spring loaded luggage rack

Foldability for storage – even fits in the back of our 4 runner

Headlight and rear light powered by lithium battery

Power assist and changing gears user friendly

CONS: Possibly the 38 pound weight for some could be a disadvantage – I personally believe the weight helps with the performance and balance of this bike.

Put this bike on your Christmas, bucket list and hopefully you will be able to have as much fun as we are having on these amazing designed electric bikes.

Julienne and Vegetable Peeler by UberChef

I dont know about you but my husband and I love gadgets. We both love to cook, but I hate a tool that’s just o.k. maybe not so sharp which is really dangerous or hard to clean or so bulky it won’t fit in your drawers. It was time to get rid of my (4) dull vegetable peelers, yes (4) and get a really decent one. I searched the internet with mixed opinions . I had just received this months copy of my very favorite Fine Cooking Magazine, June/July 2018 issue. One of the topics was peelers, they reviewed 4 different brands and I am sure all of the brands are wonderful in their own unique designs. The one that caught my eye was the Uberchef dual julienne and vegetable peeler.

Now for the true test, does it live up to what I expected from the Fine Cooking article. The answer is absolutely YES, it’s really amazing.

Number one reason I choose this brand of peeler is because it was made out of heavy-duty solid stainless steel, dishwasher safe and a ubanamic handle which is very comfortable and easy to control.

Second it does double duty, very user friendly, easily and neatly juliennes veggies and fruit. The blade on the opposite side is a traditional very sharp vegetable peeler. Super easy to clean, including a thin cleaning brush.

This uberchef julienne and peeler will also replace my medium size julienne machine which is difficult to set up and clean. So actually I give up 5 gadgets in my kitchen for one super quality gadget which will last for years.

Testing: potatoes, so much faster and easier.

Tomatoes: the blade is so sharp it left the tomato in perfect condition.

Kiwi: No problem

Julienne: Turnips, carrots, zucchini, cucumbers, asparagus and one of our favorite sweet potatoes (perfect). With this device you can julienne almost anything.

Whidbey Island Distillery – Wa

Whidbey Island Distillery is a family owned business run by three generations of the Heising family. They began making distilled spirits in 2009 on Washington’s own Whidbey Island and in September 2011 sold their first bottle of Loganberry Liqueur. Since then their distillery has become award winning and a recognized producer of some of the finest spirits in the world. Among numerous awards is the Blackberry Liqueur which holds a 98 rating by the Beverage Testing Institute making it the highest rated spirit (of any kind) produced in North America.

We stumbled onto the Distillery as new members of Harvest Hosts. The owners welcomed us to stay overnight and wowed us with their delicious hand-crafted whiskey.

Tasting and Tour

Whidbey Island is beautiful in itself. Whidbey Island Distillery is warm and rustic, with award winning liqueurs. A fun and interesting tour with a very unique process with friendly and informative staff.. The liqueurs were amazing, with blackberry being our favorite.

Thanks to our hosts Steve and Bev for letting us stay in a beautiful, quiet and serene camp site. We will certainly pass on our special experience and definitely return.

Wine Saver By Vacu Vin

Wine saver by Vacu Vin really works and preserves your wine after opening. It’s Simple, after opening your bottle and if by any chance there is some wine left, place the wine stopper provided on top of the wine bottle and pump the Vacu Vin until you hear a CLICK. That’s it, your bottle is sealed and preserved. When you are ready for another drink just press your finger against the tip on the top of the stopper which will release the pressure and remove the stopper. I have actually re sealed a bottle of wine 3 times and the flavor was just as good as the first opening. We have even left it this way for four weeks and it has held.

Pros: Definitely extended the life of my wines. Great gift for wine connoisseurs. Affordable.

Cons: Be careful when you press the vacuum pump down as it can pinch your fingers.

Hints: Run the rubber stopper under water before using it – a little moisture helps achieve a better seal, especially when the rubber stoppers are no longer new.

RV Camp-A-Toaster

We had a toaster on our trailer that you plug in to electric, right who doesn’t, but you need electric to toast which requires a lot of power. So if you RV and camp like we do, often times we are off of the grid (no electric). Yes we have a 2000 watt generator, but you can only use one appliance at a time even with running our generator..

EXAMPLE: After I shower I like to blow dry my hair while Jeff prepares breakfast, so if he is using the microwave and I am blow drying my hair the breaker blows. Plug in coffee pot and the toaster at the same time, blows the breaker, you can see where I am going with this. One appliance at a time only.

RV SHOPPING: So I happen to be at Jerry’s RV in Bend, Oregon checking out all of the cool RV kitchen supplies and (VOILA) I found the perfect answer, The World Famous Stovetop Camp-A-Toaster. So of course I purchased one at a reasonable price of $10.70, donated my electric toaster to my work and PROBLEM IS SOLVED.

Camp-A-Toaster toasts two slices of bread in a jiffy over a campfire, campstove burner, grill and even your gas stove at home or in your RV . Its ideal for English muffins, sandwiches and my homemade bread fits perfectly. It weights 9 ounces, measures 5 x 9 by 2 1/2 inches, super easy to store and made in the U.S.A.

PERFECT TOAST:. I have found to make perfect toast I set my gas burner at 2 and as soon as you smell that wonderful toast aroma in approximately 1 minute the toast is ready to flip and toast another minute its that easy and fast.

Salad Spinners For RV’S and smaller spaces

Today I am going to review my new favorite collapsible salad spinner. Which happens to reduce itself in size by half for COMPACT STORAGE. BPA free and a ample 4 Liter size.

HOW TO USE: Remove lid and expand bowl and basket separately. Place the lid on the bowl and start turning, it’s that simple.

CLEANING: Hand wash for better results. To disassemble lid, simply unscrew the green center knob under the lid.

OTHER USES: Basket can be used as a colander and the bowl can be used for mixing salads and for serving.

Review: After using this product for several months I cannot find anything that I don’t like, I even love the bright lime green and white color. The spinner handle is very easy to spin and it really removes the moisture from the lettuce and or herbs. Being a multi functional kitchen gadget which folds up to 10 inches by 10 inches by 3 inches I would highly recommend. Staefeit is available on Amazon for free shipping.

RV Travel Adventures

Welcome to Just Around The Bend our travel blog. As we go about our adventures we are hoping to see and experience some wonderful places and meet a lot of interesting people. One of our challenges on the road and living in our little caravan is to stay fit and eat healthy. One would hope that the time factor is on our side and we can be creative in our cuisine keeping it healthy and tasty. Another fun goal is to visit every National Park on our journey in our 24 foot Navion Sprinter. see ya on the road!

We are Jeff and Liz from Bend Oregon. Five years ago we retired and have been traveling and exploring the United States and Canada in our 2018 Winnebago Navion. Our goal is to visit all of the National Parks and State Parks and National Monuments and any and all points of interests. Our RV is a 4 season ready and so are we. In the past five years we have traveled extensively through the Pacific Northwest into British Columbia and spent the last two winters in The Sonoran Desert.
